Series 2 XJ6, XJ12, XJ6C, XJ12 C 1974-1979

In September 1973, Jaguar introduced the newly designed XJ6 and XJ12.
This new design used some of the same styling from the earlier Series 1 models, but most of the car was redesigned.
The XJ6 was still powered by the 4.2L engine used on the Series 1 cars, and the XJ12 cars were still powered by the 5.3L V12. The transmission on the XJ6 was changed to the Borg Warner Model 65.
The body and interior saw the most significant changes.
The outside of the new Series 2 cars saw new bumpers, grille, and lights located in the bumper. US versions had a new rubber bumper cover.
Changes to the interior included a new dashboard that moved the position of the gauges. Push button switches replaced the earlier rocker switches, and for the first time fiber optic cables provided lighting for some of the instrumentation. Larger, more comfortable armrests were included, and seat belts were standard equipment. The steering wheel was replaced with one with a larger center pad. Power door locks were also installed. A newly designed Heat and Air Conditioning system was installed.
In 1974, the Long Wheel Base was standard.
In May 1975 the Series 2 XJ12 was supplied with fuel injection for the first time. The gearing remained as a power lock, 3.31:1 but was later changed to a 3.07:1.The fuel injected XJ12 was supplied with Kent Alloy wheels, replacing the earlier steel wheel. In 1977, the gearbox was changed to the GM400.
In April 1975, the two door coupe was introduced as both the XJ6C and XJ12C. It was a pillar-less design so that all the windows would disappear leaving the cabin completely open. The Coupe was always supplied with a vinyl top.
After a short production run of only 10427 cars (including the Daimler variants), production of the Coupe ended in November of 1977.
In 1978 the XJ6 Sedan would receive fuel injection.
In 1979 the Series 2 cars production would cease, with approximately 64,632 sedans produced.

Although the Series 2 cars had a limited production, there is still a good supply of both new and used parts available.
